Font Survey

We created a font survey to decide which font we should use for the titles on our website and digipak. We decided to do a survey to gain more opinions and we asked mainly people between 15 and 20 years old as this is our main target audience.

Social Media

Social Media is an important influence within a stars image. It allows stars to interact with their fan base and also promote new songs, albums and products. It gives chance for promotions of them as an artist and also acknowledgments of what they stand for.

Things to incorporate into social media accounts:

  • Sneak preview of video
  • updates of video progression
  • photoshoot
  • website links
  • Other social media links.
  • Daily content and uploads

Star Profile

Cross Media Task

This task allowed us to us understand that we had to establish a theme throughout so that all of our products looked like one package which accompanied our desired star image. Powered by emaze

Artist Name

We decided to name our artist 'Isla'.

We asked everyone in our class, our teachers, friends and family to vote on what they thought the best name was.
When we researched other artists called Isla, we found that there were no famous singers already on the market with that name and so came to the conclusion that we did not need to use a surname to  market her.

Website Research and Analysis

Before creating our website, we needed to research some established artists' websites to work out what things are commonly included on a website for a music artist.
Below, we have analysed Ed Sheeran's website pages and highlighted the forms and conventions that he has included. We could include some of these in our own website.

Similar Artist Research: Honey Blood

Honey Blood is a Scottish music duo with a similar image to that of Black honey. Their song super rat is quirky and the music video is fun and creative.

Ward Thomas is a country duo. Although Black Honey is more indie not country the image ward Thomas have and the style of some of their videos have similar images which could also be used when we build up the image for our artist.

Website Study and Analysis - Wolf Alice

Website

This is the first thing you see when you open the Wolf Alice website. The background is black and completely plain, adding a sophisticated and classy look to the website. It also does not distract from the image in the still of the YouTube video. You can also see that the website features the artist's signature font in the title. There are also buttons below the embedded video that allow you to access the artist's Spotify, Deezer, iTunes, Apple Music and links to purchase CDs and vinyl records. Beneath this, there are links to the artist's social media pages.

Underneath the social media buttons, there is a long list of venues that the artist is due to play at. The list includes dates, venues, geographical location and a button that you can click on to get more information about tickets.

When you click on the 'Tickets and More' button, you get directed to this page. Here, you have more information on the concert and the option to buy tickets from an external site. You can also indicate whether or not you are going or interested in going to the event.

Taylor Swift Digipak Analysis

This digipak is great at making the whole product match and look unified. This is because of the repeated photographs shown in different forms and the photos also all use the same filter.
As well as this, the disc blends in with the background behind it, which is something that we did not see often when doing our research.

Corrine Lyrics

[Chorus]Corrine, come back to me
'Cause it's six in the morning and we're only playing make believe
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause we live in a movie that nobody else will ever see

[Verse 1]
I've been waiting here so long to find out what we're searching for
The city's not the same when you leave (when you leave)
And every girl she wants to be just like you but you won't see
I think all of our friends would agree, yeah

[Chorus]
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause it's six in the morning and we're only playing make believe
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause we live in a movie that nobody else will ever see

[Verse 2]
In a year or so from now I'll be there, you're in the crowd
Remembering how we used to be (used to be)
Then you say you forgive me then I take back the things I said
I think that you should know that I'm sorry, yeah

[Chorus]
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause it's six in the morning and we're only playing make believe
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause we live in a movie that nobody else will ever see

[Chorus/Breakdown]
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause it's six in the morning and we're only playing make believe
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause we live in a movie that nobody else will ever see
Nobody else will ever see

[Chorus]
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause it's six in the morning and we're only playing make believe
Corrine, come back to me
'Cause we live in a movie that nobody else will ever see

Ellie Goulding Digipak Analysis

Ellie Goulding's digipak is very unusual because of how simplistic it is. There are only two main colours used, pastel pink and blue, as well as some white text. The photos on the digipak also have the artist wearing the same thing and they have no background.

Artist Photoshoot

We decided to take some photos of the artist, Isla, with her band members. This is because we wanted to incorporate a photo of the band members on the website as well as just her.

Band Name Survey

To come up with our band name, we created a Survey Monkey to gain the feedback from our peers as to what name would best suit our group. The most popular name was 'Exiles' with 31% of the votes going to that name. One suggestion from someone who chose 'other' was to have the name 'Blank Canvas'.

Steal-O-Matic

This video contains ideas of different shot and editing effects that we can use when creating our music video. We found the clips in this video when researching the music videos that other artists had released. We then edited the clips together with our song in the background. We would like to include a reange of different shots in our video- long shots, closeups, mid shots etc. We would also like to include some shots that look solely at mise en scene. This adds more variety and interest as well as providing more location context to the music video we create. We would like to try and include some elements of light in our video and use the camera work to incorperate this (or possibly add this when editing).
When filming lip syncing shots, we would like to have a variety of mid and long shots.

James Arthur Digipak Analysis

This digipak of James Arthur's album, 'Back from the Edge', is very plain with the colours blue and white featuring heavily.

We planned out the way to drive to our first location, Southend-On-Sea. The quickest driving route is 36 mins.

Group Availability

This timetable shows our availability for this week. We will make a new one each week to show the times that we will be available to work together on the video and film.

Similar Genre Videos

The camera angles in this video are not common, and using shots similar to the slow moving angled ones that this video has would help to make our music video more interesting. Also, the lack of busy movement and sticking to simplicity may be a good contrast for some of our shots.

The vintage, vignette-style effect that this video has would be very interesting to include on some shots in our video to help create a more old fashioned style. This would also allow us to add B-Roll footage in our video, and this can help the audience to connect more with the band, therefore having an increased interest in them.

The performance by the band accompanied by the camera work really suits the fast pace of the song and the genre of it also. Incorporating a mix of quick-paced and slow motion sequences is very engaging.

James Bay Digipak Analysis

James Bay's digipak for his album, Chaos and the Calm, follows a very dark theme throughout and the colour black features heavily. This digipak is interesting because it uses imagery of hats. It is an interesting idea to use an object as the focus of the digipak.
